SACRAMENTO – California Attorney General Xavier Becerra issued the following statement following a roundtable held by the Trump Administration to discuss California’s law that provide for the safety and welfare of its residents:

“Scapegoating and fear-mongering is the wrong way to strike a conversation about public safety. In California, we believe we are safest when there is trust between our communities, including our immigrant neighbors, and local law enforcement. While President Trump seems to think our local law enforcement agencies should do the job of the federal government, we’re in the business of public safety, not deportation. The California Values Act does not conflict with federal immigration laws, but instead works in concert with them. I urge the president to take time to read it.”
