PHOENIX — Paul Goldschmidt continued his recent tear at the plate with a third-inning home run off Jason Vargas to give the D-backs a 2-1 lead over the Mets on Thursday night.

Goldschmidt, who struggled in the first seven weeks of the season, came into Thursday’s game hitting .559 with four homers and a 1.772 OPS in his previous eight games.

That contrasts sharply with the .198 average the five-time All-Star had after play on May 22.

Since May 23, Goldschmidt was hitting .403/.488/.847 entering Thursday’s game.

Arizona outfielder David Peralta, who has been riding a hot steak of his own, hit his sixth home run of June and 13th of the season to lead off the fourth and extend the D-backs’ lead to 3-1.
