Washington, D.C resident pockets top-prize payout on Gold Bar Bingo game

This week, a District of Columbia resident with a penchant for bingo scratch-offs saw the numbers align for a top-prize win. The 72-year-old, calling himself “Mr. Bingo,” matched a series of numbers on a Gold Bar Bingo scratch-off to receive a $50,000 payout.

The lucky winner is a former employee of the District of Columbia’s public works department. “Mr. Bingo” told Lottery officials that his work as a mechanic helped the city look good by keeping trash trucks on the street.

The loyal scratch-off player loves playing bingo-style games to try to win prizes and as a fun way to pass the time. When the retiree gets a chance, he’ll visit one of his favorite stores, purchase a few scratch-offs and test his luck. This $5 scratch-off came from Lewisdale Market in Hyattsville.

“I’m glad my luck came in when it did,” said “Mr. Bingo.”

He has kept quiet about his recent success, but said he plans to share the news at his family’s holiday gathering. The winnings will help pay off a few bills, said “Mr. Bingo,” and he also plans to surprise the store clerk that sold him the ticket with a celebratory tip.

The Gold Bar Bingo scratch-off joined the Maryland Lottery’s lineup of scratch-off games in July, offering players a chance to win prizes from $5 to $50,000. With this win, the game now has three $50,000 top prizes remaining.

Also lucky is Lewisdale Market located at 7701 23rd Avenue in Hyattsville. For selling a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off, the Prince George’s County store earned a $500 retailer bonus from the Lottery.
