SOS Johnson, SOS-elect Benson meet to discuss transition issues

Secretary of State Ruth Johnson and Secretary of State-elect Jocelyn Benson met today in Lansing as part of a transition process aimed at maintaining excellent service for Michigan residents.

The two met in the Austin Building and discussed, among other topics, the long-awaited computer upgrade project known as the Customer and Automotive Records System that begins implementation in February. Their conversation also touched on the changes ahead for the state’s elections system that voters approved in November’s election. Johnson’s staff provided detailed information about the department’s operation immediately after the election to ensure a smooth transition.

“I’ve been honored to work alongside top-notch career professionals in the Secretary of State’s Office who are committed to providing the best service to the people of Michigan,” Johnson said. “I know they will serve Secretary-elect Benson just as well.”

Staff of Benson and Johnson will continue to hold transition meetings up to Jan. 1, when Benson will be sworn in as Michigan’s 43rd secretary of state.

“I appreciate the spirit of cooperation during the transition to ensure the delivery of services that Michigan residents deserve and expect,” Benson said.
